Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of Massage?

While massage cannot "fix” your body, it can assist you in finding ways to reach optimal health, by reducing stress and increase relaxation. See Home page for Massage Benefits.

Are there any contraindications to receiving Massage?

There are conditions that make Massage contraindicated. Some can range from fever, rashes, high blood pressure, bleeding disorders, burns, healing wounds, fractures, high risk pregnancy, and contagious conditions. A client is given an Intake Form to fill out for this reason. It is important that the client inform the Therapist of any medications or medical issues, so that the Therapist can determine if Massage is appropriate. If a client is under a Doctor’s supervision/care, a medical note stating Massage is recommended would be required.

What occurs during a Massage Session?

Whether you set your treatment In-Office or In-Home, you will fill out confidential paperwork. You only have to do this on your first session. It lets us know any medical conditions we need to be aware of. We will briefly discuss your goals for your treatment. You will be left to undress to your comfort level and cover yourself with plush flannel sheets and a soft blanket if needed. The Therapist will make any adjustments to the coverings, add bolstering and set music to your liking. You can expect to feel safe, calm and relaxed in a nurturing environment.

How should I prepare for my Massage?

We advise you to give yourself 1-2 days if you have recently gotten a tan or shaved. This prevents the skin from becoming irritated. While staying hydrated is essential for everyday, please drink plenty of fluids before and after your treatment. If you are getting treated at home or office, select the best space where you will feel most relaxed.

Will there be conversation during my session?

It’s your Body, your Time & your Money. The Therapist usually checks in with you by asking questions pertaining to your comfort level and if pressure needs to be adjusted. While some clients find talking relaxes them, others just drift off and focus on how their body adheres to the Massage.

How frequently should I received Massage Therapy?

You are in charge of your health. Massage Therapy is a tool to help you maintain it. It depends on what your goals are. If you are facing an existing condition, it’s recommended to receive a Massage treatment once per week. You may scale down to every other week once your start to recover. Most clients use Massage Therapy as a Therapeutic tool to reduce stress and manage acute or chronic pain. Recognize the importance of Self-Care. Even receiving treatment once a month will be beneficial.

What products do you use?

While the Therapist may utilize certain products depending on type of Massage, this is also up to the client. Whether oil, lotion or cream is used, the main purpose is to hydrate the skin and to prevent friction. If a client prefers to use their own product, the Therapist will determine if it’s safe to use for both.

Where do my Massage Sessions take place?

It’s your choice! That’s right you have options. You can set your appointment In-Office (see "Contact page for location). Some clients prefer to getaway and come to the studio, others prefer their home setting for ultimate relaxation and once the session is done they don’t have to get up and leave. There are clients that choose their own office setting for themselves (on a Massage table) or book Chair Massage for the staff members. Chair Massage is great for various events, promotional, staff/customer appreciation, private parties, group gathering… Also available is the Ashiatsu Deep Feet Bar Therapy System portable bar equipment to offer barefoot massage On-Location. See Services Page for more Information.

What occurs with Chair Massage?

Chair Massage can range from 5-30 minutes Massage Treatment in a specialty designed portable Massage chair. Space requirement is minimal. All that is needed is about 5ft X 6ft area so that the Therapist can move around comfortably. Focus is on reducing tension on the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands. Massage is usually done over clothing. The client might be asked to remove additional clothing layers and jewelry. Lotion can be applied to the skin to prevent irritation. The Therapist will clean and sanitize both hands and massage chair. A new face-rest cover will be placed on the chair for each recipient. Therapist checks in to adapt to recipient’s comfort level of pressure. Please note Therapist will arrive 15 minutes in advance to setup. We encourage to designate a quiet area beforehand. Also have participants add their names to a Sign-Up sheet and assign someone to help keep the flow going.

On average, 5-6 recipients are treated per hour. Each getting approx. 7 minutes Massage.

Please note that same Contraindications apply as with regular table Massage treatments.

How do you treat children, expectant moms and elderly?

They are treated with the same care. For children, a parent/guardian needs to sign Intake Form and be present during Massage session. Expectant mothers must be past the 1st Trimester and not have a high risk pregnancy. She will be accommodated and be made comfortable with extra bolstering while laying face up or on their side. As for the elderly, they may be assisted on to the table and Massage can be administered with their clothing on. Extra bolstering will be used to make them more comfortable. They may have someone accompany them in the room while they are being treated.

How should I feel post Massage Session?

Most clients experience a state of relaxation and euphoria. Some claim to feel energized and feel freed from muscular tension. While others state they have better concentration, feel less anxiety and get a better sound sleep. Our bodies respond differently from each treatment received. It is not unusual to feel a bit sore as the body is releasing toxins and self-healing in response to treatment. Keep in mind that Massage is a passive form of exercise. That’s right! You are burning calories too. It’s normal for your body to feel sore after treatment particularly if you are not used to getting massages often, same that occurs with decreased exercise. The body responds with some soreness which shouldn’t last for more than 1 to 2 days. If you are experiencing discomfort or pain during your massage, let the Therapist know so that pressure adjustments can be made. Listen to your body. If you feel tired after treatment go ahead and continue your relaxation. Drink plenty of water and eat lightly. Massage doesn’t just treat the Body,it treats the Mind. Allow yourself to experience the emotions & feelings post-massage.
